Why is Content so Important in Internet Marketing & Search Engine Rankings

Author: Sortins Technologies

Content on your web site is the soul of the web site. In addition to well designed and attractive layout with easy navigation, visitors are also hungry for well written informative content. Well written sales page will ceratinly persuade and compel visitors to purchase the products or services offerered.

Good content works as your sales rep, generates confidence and is important if the main purpose of the website is to sell the products or services. The sales copy must accurately describe the products or services offered (without overpitching), explain the benefits of these products and services and compel the visitor to make a purchase. This should be done with style of presenting the facts & without blatantly advertising the products and services. Writing this type of copy may be complicated and requires hiring a sales copywriter who is experienced and skilled at writing this type of informative and persuasive content. If you cannot afford a professional copy writer, write your copy and ask your friends for comments. Review the content based on the feed back.

Sales copy written by an amateur or an inexperienced writer will not likely be as effective as copy written by a professional with a great deal of experience in Internet marketing.

The content on your website is very important because it will greatly influence your search engine rankings. This is critical because high search engine rankings help your business to reach a considerably larger audience. Good content is likely to be linked by webmasters from their websites resulting in more targeted traffic.

Internet users are typically looking for information quickly and want immediate results to their inquiries. Search engines are profiling the visitors and develop complicated algorithms to push the most relevant content or websites when a user searches using a keyword or phrase. Internet users realize the value of search engines and are likely to only visit websites which rank well in the search engines. This includes websites which rank on the first page or second page of search results.

A web store selling Movie DVDs/music or expensive designer apparels from a a well designed website with superior range of inventory at excellent prices will certainly attract enquiries & orders pf it is ranked well in search engines. A poorly ranked web site will miss out on a great deal of search engine driven market and free advertising. Quality content helps improve page ranking and can push your page in the first 10 or 20 search results. That is why the content on your website is considered the king. Websites containing optimized content for keywords relevant to your products or services will likely rank well with search engines. Hiring a writer skilled in writing optimized content can help to improve your search engine rankings so you can reach more potential customers.

Marketing: Articles and Other Written Content

High-quality website content is one way to market your business. However, there are additional ways. For example, articles and other written content can be used in more than a few ways to market your business. Among some of this ways are:

Articles Directories – Article directories make available fantastic marketing tactics that you can use for your business. All you have to do is write and submit an article related to your business site. Do this and you accomplish two things…

  1. You establish credibility in the topic you wrote about.
  2. You can drive more traffic to your site. Just include a link back to your business website in the author’s bio section provided on the article directory sites.

Directory sites typically rank well with the search engine results page. That makes it easier for someone to stumble upon one of your articles in the directory and find their way over to your website for further information on the subject matter you wrote about.

Articles placed within other site’s newsletters or blogs – If you would like to connect with a whole other group of people looking for information on one subject, you ought to be a guest writer on someone else’s blog or newsletter.

Again, you should include a link to your site within these articles. You should also return the favor for the other website owner to provide the same kind of articles on your newsletters or blogs.

Articles on Digg or similar sites – To get more visitors to your website, you should submit an article to Digg or a similar site. As you may know, Digg is a site that makes available articles other internet users have judged as good quality informative articles.

The articles that receive a large number of “Diggs” will be pushed to the home page where a great number of users will see and review them. If your article makes it to the home page, your site link will be included for anybody that wishes more information on the subject matter.

Offer E-books or Guides – Supply your customers with information on a subject and include a link back to your site so they do not forget your business. You can offer the information for free or for a small fee.

However, the word Free can be a compelling word to any user. It will get their attention quite easily. One of the things you could do is provide some basic information on a subject and that may well get them interested in buying an e-Book where you have additional in-depth information about the same subject matter.

As always, I hope you enjoyed this post

Marketing Your Online Home Business: E-Mail Marketing

Although it is said that it is getting harder for e-mails to get thru because of spam blockers, e-mails are necessary to any marketing campaign.  It is an important means to keep your business and products fresh in your prospective customers’ minds.  You work hard to get a visitor to your site but getting them to remember you over the countless other websites is something else in its self.  Remembering you is particularly important when they are ready to buy.

If you set up your system properly, your e-mails go out at regular intervals to provide information to your website visitors.  This is important because it helps build your credibility and it keeps your business name in the front of their minds.  This can be done several ways.

To get your visitors’ e-mail addresses, you need to set up an opt-in email form on your website.  In this way, your visitors can sign up for updates on what you are offering or for more information.

Newsletters - You can use your newsletter to present more information or small articles about subject matter that links up to your business.  For instance, let us say that you sell vitamins and minerals on your site.  Then your newsletter can offer articles on alternative health practices, etc.  In this way, you can demonstrate how valuable your product is to them.

You can send a newsletter with an introduction to an article and include a link to your site where they can read the rest of the article.  What this does is it permits your users to stay familiar with your website and it makes it easier to remember you when they are ready to purchase what you are selling.

E-Courses – You can place an opt-in form on your site where your visitors can sign up to learn the basics about a topic   For example, if you’re selling vitamin products, you can make use of an e-course on how to pick the best ones for different kinds of health problems.

E-courses are in general sent over a 5-7 day period and are frequently offered free. This is a great way to keep your business name in their minds by reminding them of it every time they receive your e-course.

Updates – You can provide updates on your products, discounts, freebies, etc. to those who have purchased something from you or people who have signed up for this feature.  In this way, those who did not buy during their first visit may buy during a later visit.

Updates can also help in bringing in more traffic for your site. Those who have already signed up for your lists will have friends, family, neighbors and co-workers that they could refer to your business by simply forwarding the messages on.

Marketing Your Online Home Business: Website

In recent posts, I have provided information on some different online home businesses. Perhaps you noticed that one of the things I kept harping on was the importance of marketing your business. There is a variety of ways to market your business and if you want to be successful, you need to learn some of them.

Over the next few post I hope to expose you to some of the more popular strategies of marketing your online business.

Let us start with the one thing that could make or break your business – your website. For marketing purposes, several things are essential to know about your website.

Domain Name: Your domain name is your address, which is used to find your site on the internet. It would be best to select a domain name that corresponds closely to your site or business name. By doing that, it helps any internet user find your business with no trouble if they are searching for a particular topic. The best option would be an exact match. However, if it is not available, finding one that comes as near as possible is your next best option.

Keywords: Because keywords are so important, you should make use of the best keywords to put inside the content on your site. Bear in mind, keywords are words that people use in a search engine (such as Google) when they are trying to find information on the internet regarding a specific topic. The keywords would be indexed by the search engine and placed within the results page for a user. So the higher your site is ranked on the results page, the higher the likelihood that the user will choose your site to visit.

Market with a Niche: What a niche does is it narrows down your business to market to a particular group of people. By narrowing down to a niche, you have the opportunity to give your consumers what they want. The larger the group, the more varied their needs. This, of course, makes it tough to get your audience interested in what you have to offer. Keep in mind that the smaller groups will have the people who are more likely to want what you have, so marketing to them will be much easier.

You need to be sure that your website reflects whatever niche you choose for your business. For example, if you are targeting people who want to lose weight, your site should reflect that. You should have graphics that connect with people that want to lose weight. Additionally, the content on your site should be written about something they can relate to. This will help with the search engines as well.

Blog: It would be to your advantage to have a blog that goes with your website. Needless to say but your blog should relate to the theme your business site has. It should not be a personal blog. You should try to design the blog’s template to match your business site as near as possible. It ought to appear that the blog goes along with the site.

Blogs are another way to make use of the search engines to gain visitors. Once a visitor finds your blog, they can tell that you have additional information to offer them on that topic elsewhere on your website, so they can just click through on the link provided.

Making money on the web is not as easy as you thought it was or were led to believe. There are many details you need to pay attention to in your quest to be successful. The information I provide is not in-depth information. It is, for the most part, an introduction. It is a start. However, I believe it will shorten your learning curve.

Valid Online Home Businesses: Unusual Ideas

I have been providing information about some of the more conventional means of starting an online business. There are plenty more ways that are conventional and there are some unconventional means as well that you should be aware of.

When I say unconventional, I refer to the kind of ideas people will laugh at. There are people who came up with unconventional ideas and took them to the top, making a good living while doing that. Let me give you some examples:

  • Selling old seminars – An individual found and sold old seminars that formerly sold for thousands of dollars, thereby creating a good livelihood for himself.
  • Domain names – Somebody had a notion that they could sell a service of naming domain names for other people. Sounds crazy? You bet. Nevertheless, the business took off for them. It seems there was a strong need for that service.
  • Selling used engagement jewelry – Supposedly, this idea was the result of a broken engagement. It seems somebody broke off their engagement, got the ring back but found they could not return it for full value. So they started a site for other people with the same problem to sell their jewelry and earn back what they paid for it or as close to it as possible.
  • Selling butterflies for a living – You bet. Let’s face it. People sell ants, worms and seahorses. So why not butterflies. One person found out when someone bet him that he could not sell them. He not only won that bet, but also made an enormous business from that one little idea.

So do not sell yourself short. Check your memory banks and see if there is one idea hiding there that no one would believe could work. You just might prove them wrong.
