Blogging. One of the hottest forms of communication on the web. Originally, it was used as a way to let somebody in on pictures, stories and experiences. It was a way to hook up with others that had its beginnings years ago. In fact, it was regarded as a great personal journal type tool. With this tool, one could leave their mark on the internet through their encounters.
Later, blogs were seen as excellent Marketing Tools not to mention that it was a great method with which to make money. How? Well, there are a few diverse ways to make income from blogging. I will go over a few here but you should be aware that there are other methods of making money with a blog.
Adsense Ads – There are some search engines that offer you a way to make a little extra money with any blog or website. How? Here is the basic process:
- Place Adsense Ads on your site.
- A visitor to your site clicks on the ad.
- You earn a pre-determined amount of money.
So, the more clicks you get on your site ads, the more money you can make. Just make sure that you follow the rules, as there are some. Thus, if you decide to use adsense ads, make sure to learn what you can and cannot do before signing up for their programs.
Product Reviews – there are some companies who will pay you to review their product on your blog so they can get some exposure. However, generally, your blog has to have been around for a while and has to have a reasonable quantity of visitors.
If you decide to use this method, you need to find websites where you can sign up and they will put you in touch with companies who are looking for people who will do reviews.
Contextual Links – There are some business or website owners who will pay a blogger to post one of their links within their blog posts. Of course, the blog has to relate to their companies’ sites. That means the links provided on the blogs will be search engine friendly.
It will be the owners themselves or a company that is acting as an intermediary for the owners that will contact you about posting a link. This is also a fantastic way to get some extra traffic for your site.
Sell products – In an earlier post, I wrote about selling your products on your website. Well, blogs are another way you can sell your own products from. In fact, if you can handle it, you can use both your website and your blog to sell your products. That way you can make more money online.
What skills would be helpful?
Marketing! Marketing! Marketing! This is one skill that regardless of the business you start on the internet, you can use. Here, you need to market your blog. Other than that, there is not much skill involved in this type of business. Of course, the more you like to write will be helpful.
I would recommend that you research blogging as much as possible to learn some of “the tricks of the trade” so as to help you get your blog popular.
What Tools would be needed?
Obviously, a computer with an internet connection. After that, your main tool would be – a blog. I have to warn you that there are many blogging programs out there to choose from. There are those that are free to set up with, whereas others demand a monthly or annual fee to get started with.
One of the most popular blogging programs (if not the most popular) is wordpress. WordPress, the independent version, is my personal choice. The independent version allows me to put my blog on my own site rather than on the WordPress site. Blogger is another blogging program (from Google). Blogger does not have an independent version.
Again, I recommend that you do some research on blogging programs so you can make an informed decision on your choice.
How do I get started?
Once you have decided on a blogging program, just set it up and start posting your entries to it. How often you should post is debatable. There are those who say you should post daily, others say once a week is enough.
There is even a debate as to how many posts you should make to your blog daily. One person wrote that you should not post more than four post a day otherwise you will get a Google “slap”. Just recently, in an article I read about this topic, the author of the article said once, as a test, he posted 15 to 20 times a day to his blog over a period of time to see what would happen. He said he did not get a Google “slap” but he received a significant increase in visits to his site.
I would recommend blogging on a regular basis, which, to me, is at least a couple of days a week. Blogs that are not updated regularly tend to get lost in cyberspace.
Market your blog as much as possible. How?
- Get listed on blog directories.
- Get on other people’s blog rolls
- Comment on other blog author’s posts to get some exposure to your blog.
To increase your chances of making blogging a lucrative way to bring in some money, you need to drive as much traffic as you can to your blog.
Blogging can be an easy way to make some extra cash but you should plan to work hard at marketing it. You will find that the ones successful at blogging for money use every method they can to get their blog well known in the internet communities. Those that do not, tend to earn only a few cents a week.
So what do you want to do? You want to make your blog a business, not just a hobby you play at every now and than. Happy blogging.
